The American public sees the Democrats' push to impeach President Donald Trump for "what it is," Rep. Jim Jordan said Monday while criticizing Rep. Adam Schiff's claims that his party's allegations against the president have been fully proven.
"Remember, he's the one who told us that we look forward to hearing from the whistleblower," the Ohio Republican told Fox News' "Fox and Friends," where he appeared in a joint interview with Trump's fellow House impeachment defense team member Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C. "How many times has Adam Schiff misled the American people in this four-month ordeal that our country has had to live through?"
On Sunday, Schiff, the lead House impeachment manager at Trump's Senate trial, told CBS News' "Face the Nation" that he would not have changed any strategy, even though the Senate is expected to acquit Trump later this week.
Meadows said Monday that with a bipartisan vote in the House against impeachment and the expected bipartisan acquittal, "it shows that, indeed, there were no merits to this case and we've got to stop this from ever being an impact on not only this president but [on] any future president."
Meadows said he and Jordan were in all depositions related to the impeachment case and if one looked at the facts, "they wouldn't have impeached him at all and it wouldn't have gone to the Senate."
But Trump, he added, "needs to call it out for what it is, politics, and hopefully, we can get back to really focusing on what matters."
Jordan added that Democrats did not know how things would play out in the impeachment trial.
"They would have never predicted that every single Republican in the House would vote against it, one Democrat would vote with us, another Democrat would vote present, a third Democrat would vote with us on one article and a fourth Democrat would vote with us and then switch parties," he said.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi "messed this up all the way around, because, again, the facts were always on the president's side," Jordan added.
