Biden: Now Not 'Appropriate' to Announce White House Run

By    |   Tuesday, 09 December 2014 08:03 PM EST

Vice President Joe Biden said Tuesday he hasn't yet made up his mind on whether he'll run for president in 2016, saying now is not an "appropriate" time for him to join the race.

Speaking at the Women Rule 2014 Summit hosted by Politico, Biden said what he needs to be doing right now is continue working in his roles as Vice President and Senate President.

"I honest to God haven't made up my mind," Biden said. "I don't see the sense of urgency in making that decision quite frankly. Everything I would do to run for president is what I should be doing to be the best vice president.

"I have duel responsibility right now, and I don't think it would be appropriate for me, even if I firmly decided to go, to go off and do this full-time now."

Biden also said that being president and living in the White House is not as grand as it's perceived to be.

"There's an awful lot of your life that gets taken away," Biden said. "Living in the White House is the greatest honor in the world, but also probably one of the worst things that you can do."

Biden is among a group of Democrats who could announce their candidacy next year. RealClearPolitics notes former first lady, New York senator, and secretary of State Hillary Clinton is the clear favorite in polls. Biden, who served in the Senate for 26 years, and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who began her Senate career in 2013, trail Clinton.
