Former Vice President Joe Biden offered praise for Democratic Party victories around the U.S. on Tuesday, saying they signify a "resounding defeat" for President Donald Trump.

"Voters around the country rejected the ugly politics we have seen this past year," Biden tweeted.

He followed up with a number of tweets noting Democrat winners by name, such as Ralph Northam and Justin Fairfax, who respectively won races for governor and lieutenant governor in Virginia.

Biden sent an email to his supporters, taking some credit for the victories.

"Nearly every single candidate that I endorsed was elected," he wrote, according to the Washington Examiner.

"[Tuesday], millions of Americans around the country used their voices to demand, full-throated, a different kind of leadership," Biden wrote, per the Examiner reported. "They voted against hatred. Against divisiveness and fear-mongering. They said: 'Not here. Not on our watch.'"

Next, he will support Democrat Doug Jones in the Senate race in Alabama, Biden wrote in the email.

Fairfax became only the second African-American to win a Virginia statewide position since Reconstruction, according to The Hill.

Democrat wins included Phil Murphy easily winning the governorship of New Jersey, succeeding very unpopular Republican Gov. Chris Christie, The Hill reported.
