Rep. Joe Crowley, D-N.Y., took personal responsibility for his primary loss to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez., Roll Call is reporting.
"I think there a confluence of things that led to this loss, but I will say, this is on me," the Democratic Caucus chairman said Wednesday "We ran a good campaign, it was just not successful."
Crowley said he did not call Ocasio-Cortez on the night of the primary to concede the race because he did not have her cell phone number, according to Roll Call.
"Maybe that's more reflective of the fact that people didn't see this coming, nor did we," he said.
He revealed the two finally had a "brief conversation" last week and he congratulated her on the victory.
Meanwhile, Crowley said he has no intention of leaving Congress before his term is up.
"I will see this term through to the end of the year," he said.
Crowley represents New York's 14th Congressional District. Before his defeat, he had been considered a candidate to become the next House Speaker if Democrats regain the majority in November.
