Joe Lockhart, Bill Clinton's former press secretary, is joining global communications marketing firm Edelman as vice chairman of public affairs, the company announced.
"Joe's experience in providing counsel to the former president, presidential candidates, and some of the world's leading CEOs will make him an invaluable adviser to clients," said Edelman president and CEO Richard Edelman.
Lockhart will provide reputation counsel for CEOs and C-suite executives, the announcement said.
Lockhart was most recently with the National Football League, where he was vice president of communications and public affairs. He worked on the presidential campaigns of Jimmy Carter in 1980, Walter Mondale in 1984, and Michael Dukakis in 1988. He also advised John Kerry in his run for the presidency in 2004, the announcement said.
"I'm thrilled to be joining a firm that has worked on some of the most significant public affairs and corporate reputation campaigns in the history of the industry," Lockhart said in the announcement.
On Twitter, Lockhart said he would be working out of the New York City and D.C. offices.
