It is doubtful Michael Cohen was lying when he said then-candidate Donald Trump worked with him to make hush payments to multiple women during the 2016 presidential campaign, attorney John Dean said.
Dean was on CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360" and addressed Cohen's guilty plea for campaign finance violations and other charges.
"When you do plead, you have to explain to the court what you've done and why you have done it – and they want to make sure you're of sound mind and thinking clearly at the moment," said Dean, who served as White House counsel for former President Richard Nixon during the Watergate scandal. "I have been through that drill."
"And it's not the sort of time you give a false statement to a judge."
Cohen is facing somewhere around four or five years in prison when he is sentenced in December.
