Probe Building 'Serious Case' Against Officials in Flynn Case

Probe Building 'Serious Case' Against Officials in Flynn Case

By    |   Friday, 01 May 2020 02:54 PM EDT

Files released earlier this week that show FBI officials made a concerted effort to pin down former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn to “get him to lie” or “get him fired” have been reviewed by U.S. Attorney for Connecticut John Durham.

Fox News said the documents release renews attention on Durham’s investigation of the law enforcement community’s Russia case. The news network, quoting unnamed sources, said those reviewing the Justice Department and FBI’s actions are building a “serious case” and charges could be justified against some officials.

Durham has seen all of this already,” one source said, adding that they “could be sufficient for some charges against agents.”

“It’s a crime to present under oath false or misleading information,” the source told Fox News. “Not to mention obstruction of justice.”

And another source told the news network that the files have undergone a review by Durham and Jeff Jensen, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District if Missouri. Jensen was selected by the Justice Department to specifically review the Flynn case.

Handwritten FBI notes unsealed Wednesday reveal an attempt to pin down Flynn on having broken the Logan Act.

"What is our goal?" one of the notes reads. "Truth/Admission or to get him to lie, so we can prosecute him or get him fired?"

Also, a note written by former FBI head of counterintelligence Bill Priestap after a meeting with then-FBI Director James Comey and then-FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, showed an effort to get Flynn "to admit to breaking the Logan Act.”
