GOP presidential candidate John Kasich Thursday offered himself as an alternative candidate for any of Donald Trump's supporters who need someone to work on solutions for the issues that made them angry enough to support the New York real estate mogul's campaign.

"I know that many of those Trump supporters are people who fear for the security of their jobs, believing that politicians don't care about them as they see the rich get richer and they are increasingly stuck without wage increases," the Ohio governor said in a New York City press conference, reports Time Magazine.

"I understand it, because I lived it," he continued. "I understand it, because my little town of McKees Rocks [Pennsylvania] was a place where people did not have economic security, where people one day who would play by the rules would wake up and find out there wasn't anything for them."

He made his remarks while continuing a morning of slamming Trump's statements on abortion, his positions on NATO, and for building a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, and told reporters that the front-runner's "wild-eyed suggestions" show that Trump "is really not prepared to be president of the United States."

Kasich said that he wanted to let Trump's supporters know that "there's hope."

"While the person that you have favored continues to move in an unmoored, untethered fashion, I understand that at times he's the vessel for your frustration," said Kasich.

"I want to offer myself up as a new vessel, who can actually understand your problems, recognize your problems, and work aggressively to fix them."

Kasich, who is in a far-distant third place behind Trump and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, will not be able to gain the 1,237 delegates needed before the GOP convention this summer to clinch the nomination.

However, his team hopes to win delegates if they become released in a contested convention.
