Republican presidential candidate John Kasich said Wednesday that rival Donald Trump "has driven people farther and farther into gloom and doom" during in his campaign.
"I don't think that's what a good leader does," the Ohio governor told MSNBC host Chuck Todd at a televised town hall meeting at St. Helen's Roman Catholic Church in Howard Beach, N.Y. "I choose to give people hope.
"I've done more than 200 town hall meetings," he said. "I can walk into a room and tell people about how we're going to solve problems, recognize the frustration — but tell you how we can work our way out of it. I've done it all of my career.
"Or, I can walk into a room and just depress people and divide them and become bitter," Kasich added. "It's your choice as a leader."
