President Donald Trump disagrees with the advice of his chief of staff and other West Wing aides who said EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt should be let go.
The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that chief of staff John Kelly told Trump last week he thinks Scott Pruitt needs to be fired over allegations that he violated ethics guidelines.
Trump has thus far stood by Pruitt, who has cut regulations during his time at the EPA.
Pruitt is under fire over his travel arrangements, for renting a room from a woman with ties to a lobbyist, and significant raises that were given to two EPA officials.
Pruitt told Fox News this week he hasn't done anything wrong, noting that he stopped the raises from going into effect when he found out about them.
Trump has pledged his support of Pruitt privately and in public.
Trump said Friday via Twitter that Pruitt is "under siege."
