Kerry Tells CBS He Doubts 'Very Much' He Will Run Again

A day after President Donald Trump mocked him on Twitter, former Secretary of State John Kerry said on Tuesday he doubts "very much" that he will run for office again.

When asked about his intentions for 2020 on "CBS This Morning," Kerry said "I've said again and again it's hard to get away from it, but I doubt very much I'll be running for office again. But I'll say this, no one should be focused on 2020 right now, they should be focused on 2018."

Kerry emphasized that the country needs "people to engage and make a difference and in 2018 we have a chance to have a course correction."

The former secretary of state’s latest remarks on his future intentions in politics came after he did not explicitly rule out a potential bid a few days earlier on CBS' "Face the Nation,” saying that discussing the next presidential race is a "distraction" and a "waste of time."

That led to a tweet from Trump that said "I see that John Kerry, the father of the now terminated Iran deal, is thinking of running for President. I should only be so lucky - although the field that is currently assembling looks really good - FOR ME!”

Kerry said he refused to engage in a "back and forth on tweets" with the president.

Kerry, who is out with a new book, "Everyday is Extra," blasted Republicans for allowing the Trump administration to have disregard for the truth.
