President Donald Trump is "uncaring" and does not understand the Civil Rights Movement, Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., said in a new interview.
Lewis sat down with CNN's David Axelrod for Friday night's edition of "Axe Files" and said the president has many flaws.
"I think the person we have in Washington today is uncaring, [he] knows very, very little about the struggle and the history of the Civil Rights Movement," Lewis said.
"Black and white people died, they gave their lives."
Lewis, a fierce Trump critic who chose not to attend his inauguration (he did the same to former President George W. Bush in 2001), reiterated to Axelrod his belief that Trump had outside help in his successful bid for president last year.
"I truly believe to this day that this election was rigged in his favor," he said, adding that progress made regarding Civil Rights is threatened because "there are forces in America trying to slow us down or take us back."
Lewis also took shots at Trump's voter fraud commission, suggesting that its request for states to provide detailed information about voters "is a form of intimidation. That's a form of harassment."
