Sen. John McCain on Sunday mocked President Donald Trump's talk of a joint effort with Russia on cybersecurity — and decried the lack of any consequences for Moscow's meddling in the U.S. election.
In an interview on CBS's "Face The Nation," the Arizona Republican laughed when asked about Trump's tweet about the "impenetrable Cyber Security unit."
"I'm sure that Vladimir Putin could be of enormous assistance in that effort since he is doing the hacking," McCain said, chuckling.
McCain said Russia engaged in "sophisticated attempts" to meddle in the U.S. election and "so far they have not paid a single price for that."
"We passed a very good bill through the Senate on sanctions, and we also have other proposals out there, but as far as a specific penalty for what they did, there has been no penalty," he said.
"Yes, it's time to move forward, but there has to be a price to pay. Otherwise he will be encouraged to do so again."
