Senate Republican Conference Chairman John Barrasso, R-Wyo., is calling on President Donald Trump and members of the GOP to move forward with a nominee to the Supreme Court before the upcoming election.
The senator said on Fox News Sunday night that Republicans should move to fill the seat vacated by the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg without waiting for the upcoming election to take place, as Democrats and multiple members of the GOP have suggested.
“Let me be clear,” Barrasso said, “if the Democrats win the White House and the Senate and have the House, they will change the rules and they will blow up the Senate."
He added, "They have an entire war room working on this and they will expand the number of members of Supreme Court regardless of what the Republicans and President Trump do.”
Barrasso also said that the presence of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., at a press conference held by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who is also a New York Democrat, shows that the congresswoman is the “de facto speaker of the House.”
Schumer said at the press conference: "We're here to protect the rights of women — their rights to their body, to choose, their rights to health care and equality would go down the drain if that wish were not realized. A court with a kind of nominee President Trump will choose will undo all of that and not make global warming less likely but more likely and it will come quicker ... We do not want to turn the clock back. And we only need two more senators who will abide by RGB's wish. Two said it. We need two more."
