President Donald Trump sounded off on the Obama administration for going after a "duly elected president, and they went after him by going after fine people."
"The Obama administration Justice Department is a disgrace, and they got caught," Trump told reporters Thursday. "They got caught, dishonest people. But it's much more than dishonest, it's treason."
The remarks came moments after Attorney General William Barr's Justice Department dropped the case against Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn for one count of lying to investigators.
"What the Obama administration did is unprecedented; it's never happened," Trump said. "A thing like this have never happened before in the history of our country. I hope a lot of people are going to pay a big price because they're dishonest, crooked people. They're scum. And I say it a lot. They're human scum."
Fired FBI Director James Comey fired back on the day Flynn's case was dropped, espousing his repeated calls since his firing to elect Democrats to defeat Trump.
Comey tweeted:
"The DOJ has lost its way. But, career people: please stay because America needs you. The country is hungry for honest, competent leadership."
Flynn's case dismissal came one day after the Justice Department declassified the second memo that defined the scope of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into allegations Trump campaign and transition officials were "colluding" with Russia.
"[Flynn] was an innocent man," Trump continued. "He is a great gentleman. He was targeted by the Obama administration, and he was targeted in order to try and take down a president. What they've done is a disgrace, and I hope a big price is going to be paid."
"What happened to him should never happen again."
Comey, then the head of the FBI, was leading the investigation into the five targets of that second memo before his firing.
"The people should pay a big price for what they've done to this country," Trump said, adding a rebuke of complicit media aiding the campaign to diminish the Trump 2016 election victory and the administration. "Their partner, very complicit, is a thing called the media. The media is totally guilty."
"And all of those writers – they're not journalists, they're thieves – all of those journalists that received a Pulitzer Prize should be forced to give those Pulitzer Prizes back, because they were all wrong."
