Republican lawmaker Justin Amash on Wednesday said impeachment for President Donald Trump would be warranted if it's true he did in fact try to quash an FBI investigation, The Hill reported.
"But everybody gets a fair trial in this country," Rep. Amash, R-Mich., told The Hill.
The New York Times reported Tuesday the existence of a memo authored by former FBI Director James Comey that said Trump lobbied the director to drop an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
The Times reported it was not in possession of the memo, only that excerpts were read to them.
"I think it's pretty clear I have more confidence in Director Comey," Amash said, quoted by The Hill.
Amash is just one of two Republican lawmakers who so far have supported a Democratic bill calling for an independent investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the election.
