Rep. Justin Amash, R-Mich., said Tuesday that leaders in his party have "seriously miscalculated" the amount of support in the House of Representatives for their bill to replace the Affordable Care Act.
The lawmaker criticized the bill on Twitter:
Despite reports that Republicans behind the bill are making changes to try and win the votes of more conservative legislators, Amash, a member of the conservative Liberty Caucus associated with the tea party movement, insisted on Monday that the bill is "Obamacare 2.0" and "the elusive lose-lose-lose."
Amash's fellow conservative, House Freedom Caucus chairman Mark Meadows, R-N.C., echoed that hopes of passing the bill are "over," on Monday.
"We've communicated very clearly what we'd like to see and have done," Meadows told reporters. "We've spent hours and hours and hours investing in trying to make this a better bill, and at this point it's very clear that negotiations are over."
