President Donald Trump called Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., his "No. 1 draft pick," presumably because he believes she is a flawed running mate for Democrat challenger Joe Biden.
"She was my No. 1 pick," Trump told reporters at the daily press briefing. "We will see how she works out. She did very, very poorly in the primaries, as you know. She was expected to do well, and she ended up right around 2%, spent a lot of money. She had a lot of things happening. So, I was a little surprised he picked her. I've been watching her for a long time.
"And I was a little surprised."
Notably, Trump called Harris "nasty" from the way she treated Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his contentious Senate Judiciary confirmation hearing.
"She was extraordinarily nasty to Kavanaugh, Judge Kavanaugh then, now Justice Kavanaugh," Trump continued. "She was nasty to a level that was just a horrible thing the way she was, the way she treated now-Justice Kavanaugh, and I won't forget that soon. She did very poorly in the primaries and now she's chosen. Let's see how all that works out."
Trump called the Democratic primary ostensibly "a poll" of how Democrat voters viewed her, and not well, he reminded, adding she was also "nasty" to ultimate nominee Biden in the debates.
"She is a big tax raiser," Trump said. "She is a big slasher of funds for our military. And she's got a lot of difficult things that she is going to have to explain. Plus, she was very, very nasty to – one of the reasons it surprised me – she was probably nastier even than Pocahontas [Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.] to Joe Biden. She was very disrespectful to Joe Biden.
"It is hard to pick somebody that is disrespectful. She said things during the debate, during the Democratic primary debates that were horrible about Sleepy Joe. And I would think that he would not have picked her."
