Kamala Harris reportedly has refused to extend an invitation to J.D. Vance for a sit-down or tour of the vice president's residence.
Vance and his family will move into the Naval Observatory, home to vice presidents since the 1970s, following Monday's inauguration.
Nevertheless, Harris has not extended an invitation to Vance to visit the home, CBS News reported.
In fact, after Usha Vance's team reached out in November seeking details about how the house suited children — the Vances have three young kids — it initially was rebuffed by a Harris political appointee, the outlet reported.
Since then, there has been communication between the Vance team and Navy aides who oversee the residence.
One source told CBS News that Navy officials provided a pre-Christmas overview of the house to discuss the layout and to help answer any questions.
Also, Usha Vance spoke with second gentleman Doug Emhoff for roughly 40 minutes last week, the outlet reported.
Harris' refusal to entertain Vance and his family may have to do with the fact that, according to her team, former Vice President Mike Pence never afforded her the opportunity to visit the home before she was sworn in in 2021.
However, Harris took office during the COVID outbreak and amid Donald Trump's allegations that the 2020 election outcome was determined by voter fraud in several key states.
Pence advisers dispute that an invitation to Harris was never offered. They say he discreetly offered Harris and Emhoff a chance to visit the house in the final days of the Trump administration because the then-president resisted accommodating the incoming administration.
In 2016, then-Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Jill hosted the Pences at the Naval Observatory not long after the election.
"We're just very grateful for the hospitality today of the vice president and second lady," Pence said at the time.
Vice presidents used to live in their own homes until Congress provided money to refurbish the Naval Observatory, a Queen Anne-style mansion, for vice presidential use in 1974, according to the White House.
"You're on 80 acres, overlooking the rest of the city, and you can walk out, there's a swimming pool, you can walk off the porch in the summer and jump in the pool and go into work," Biden said at a CNN town hall during the first year of his presidency, DailyMail.com reported.
"You can ride a bicycle around and never leave the property. You can work out, but the White House is very different."
