Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., has condemned the use of the term "Chinese virus" and considers it a racist slur to use in place of coronavirus.
That's why Harris has introduced a bill rejecting “all forms of anti-Asian sentiment as related to COVID-19," calling "Chinese Virus," "Wuhan Virus" and "Kung Flu" inappropriate terms to refer to virus that originated from China.
Senate Resolution 580 would call on public officials to condemn the use of any of those terms to refer to coronavirus.
Democratic Sens. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Mazie Hirono of Hawaii are co-sponsors of the resolution.
“It also calls on law enforcement officials to investigate, document, and prosecute the perpetrators of hate crimes against Asian Americans,” according to the Free Beacon.
Rep. Grace Meng, D-N.Y. has also introduced a similar resolution condemning the use of terms that refer to Asians.
