Joe Biden is surrounding himself with many of the same foreign policy advisers that led him to make bad decisions over the years when he was in the Senate and served as vice president to President Barack Obama, and they may not understand that the world has changed drastically over the past few years, Republican strategist Karl Rove said Tuesday.
"Remember Bob Gates' great remarks, that Joe Biden has been wrong on every foreign policy issue he ever made a decision on in his life," Rove told Fox Business' "Mornings With Maria." "These are the people who have been surrounding him."
Several of those Biden announced officially as members of his Cabinet have been associated with him for years, including his pick for chief of staff, Ron Klain, and his choice for secretary of state Antony Blinken, not to mention John Kerry, who Biden has tapped as a climate czar.
"All these people are well-known to him," said Rove. "Many are alumni of the Obama-Biden administration."
There also have not been many progressives named as members of Biden's Cabinet, should he take office after President Donald Trump's legal challenges fail to prove fruitful, but instead, the former vice president has been picking more "traditional Democrats," which will likely anger party members from the left and "accentuate [their] animosity," said Rove.
Rove, who served as deputy chief of staff to President George W. Bush, added that there is not much known about the policies a Biden administration will execute, because the campaign was more about spotlighting the differences between Biden and Trump than it was about presenting the issues.
Rove also pointed out that when it comes to Kerry, he's concerned that the former secretary of state won't "grapple" with a changing world, particularly if he reenters the Paris Agreement on climate change.
"China is a far-more aggressive power, starting in 2012 than it was when Biden came in as vice president," said Rove. "Are these people from the Obama-Biden administration going to deal with these kinds of questions or are they trying to go back to where they were before Are they going to have to take time to understand the new world in which we find ourselves adjust?"
