North Carolina Sen. Kay Hagan released a radio ad in the waning hours of her re-election bid with an unexpected endorser: President Barack Obama.
Like other Democratic Senate candidates, Hagan has distanced herself from the unpopular president throughout her campaign, but with the race neck-and-neck as it comes down to the wire, her campaign has produced an ad with Obama directly addressing listeners.
In the ad, Obama says North Carolina voters need to "send a message this election" by voting for Hagan.
"You know Kay Hagan has been tirelessly creating job opportunities here at home and supporting a higher minimum wage," Obama says in the ad. "But Republicans have been cutting investments in education while protecting tax breaks for the wealthy, so let's send them a message by voting for someone who shares our priorities."

Hagan's Republican opponent told
Fox News Channel's "The Kelly File" on Monday that the ad smacks of desperation.
"Now we just hear tonight that on certain radio stations President Obama, after being absent from the state for 18 months, is now doing an ad on the last day," Thom Tillis said.
Politico noted that the ads could boost turnout for Hagan depending "on which markets the campaign is targeting and on which stations the spot was airing."
