The race between Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler and her Democrat challenger Raphael Warnock for the Georgia Senate runoff is at a virtual tie, according to a recently released Insider Advantage/Fox 5 Atlanta poll.
In the survey, 49.2% of voters supported Loeffler, while 48% backed Warnock, and 2.9% were undecided, with early voting already underway for the Jan. 5 election.
If Democrats win both of the Georgia Senate races, they will have 50 Senate seats and control the chamber due to Kamala Harris casting the tie-breaking vote as vice president in a Joe Biden administration.
Other results from the survey:
- Loeffler is strongest among those who are 65 years or older, with 56.7% support, while Warnock only has the support of 41.9% in that age group.
- Warnock is performing best among voters under the age of 30, with 50%, while Loeffler only has the backing of 42.7% in that age group.
- Among whites, Loeffler holds a significant 68.4% to 28.4% advantage, while Warnock has a commanding 82.2% to 15.3% lead among Blacks.
- Loeffler has a steep lead among men, with 55.2%, while Warnock only has 41.3%. Among women, the lead is almost reversed, with Warnock at 53.7% support and Loeffler at 44%.
- While both candidates have the overriding backing of those in their own party, Warnock holds a substantial 62.9% to 30% lead over Loeffler among independents.
The survey was conducted among 500 Georgia voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.
