Republican Kelsey Grammer Considering Bid for Office

Monday, 25 March 2013 02:13 PM EDT

Actor Kelsey Grammer, part of the Republican minority in Hollywood, is considering a bid for political office.

He has hinted at a run several times in the past and told Britain’s The Guardian newspaper in an interview published Friday, “That still may happen.”

But what about Grammer’s days as a drinker, drug-user and participant in a sex tape?

“Oh, all that would come up,” the five-time Emmy Award-winning “Frasier” star says. “But I don’t think it needs to stick. George Bush went through something similar, and he said, ‘Look, there’s some stuff in my past.’ And then you move on.”

Public service has “a certain elegance,” Grammer says.

Grammer, who first made a name for himself on “Cheers,” has also gone through three divorces and is now married to a former flight attendant 26 years younger than him.

Grammer, 58, played the fictional mayor of Chicago in a TV show called “Boss” that ran in 2011-12. He has intimated he was denied an Emmy for that show because of his Republican politics.

“Is it possible that they might think, ‘Oh gosh, I don’t like what he stands for?’ Sure it is,” Grammer says.
