Congress plans to build from the momentum of the first round of tax cuts to add a second phase that will help families stretch their budgets even more, and is looking to make tax cuts that have already been enacted permanent, House Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady said Friday.
"The tax cuts for families and small businesses were long-term, but they weren't permanent," the Texas Republican told Fox Business' "Mornings with Maria."
"We think it's important for growth and security."
The committee is also examining ways to help families to start saving money earlier in life, whether it be for retirement or for healthcare.
"We think there is more we can do, to help start up innovation in American again," said Brady. "It is important to jobs, to paychecks as well. America is not going to settle until we have everyone back to work with rising paychecks, with keeping more of what they worked so hard to earn."
The committee will also be looking at pensions to make sure they are adequate and secure for long-term workers.
"We did a lot of good things, in the Tax Cuts Jobs Act," said Brady. "We are also a looking to improve.
Meanwhile, Congress knows competitors around the world will continue looking forward to fighting aggressively, but the United States, by lowering tax rates, will do the same.
"We want to make sure America never falls behind like it did for the past 31 years," Brady said.
