Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy declared Saturday's assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania as an "attack" on not just former President Donald Trump, but "our nation as a whole."
"Thank God he survived this attack and is doing well," the California Republican posted on X late Saturday night. "Our condolences and prayers go out to the victims of today's tragedy and their families. May God bless America tonight and always."
Saturday's shootings, which unfolded shortly after Trump took the stage at the Butler Farm Show, left the former president with a wound to his right ear. Authorities said one rallygoer was killed and two are in critical condition following the attack.
The Secret Service shot and killed the shooter.
