Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., on Sunday said the unrest roiling cities around the country shows that the country is “not safe in Donald Trump’s America.”
In an interview on ABC News’ “This Week,” Klobuchar said President Donald Trump’s “rhetoric” is dividing rather than healing a nation besieged with the coronavirus pandemic and violent racial justice protests.
“I have long condemned looting, violence, threats, that’s not peaceful protests. I clearly condemn this,” she said, adding, “It is happening under Donald Trump’s watch.”
“We are not safe in Donald Trump’s America,” Klobuchar said. “It’s not only that we’re seeing increases in crime… 3,600 people died during the Republican convention” from COVID-19, she said.
“We are not more safe,” Kobuchar asserted. “We have not seen that with this president.”
According to Klobuchar, the solutions have to be aimed at bringing Americans together.
“We condemn violence. We condemn looting,” she said. “The solutions are not to divide people, it is to bring it together… you can be against looting and be for police reform… and still be for good law enforcement… I see it as something we can do together.”
“But not with the rhetoric we see” from President Donald Trump, she charged.
