Lanny Davis — the Democratic lawyer who served as special counsel in Bill Clinton's administration and is a longtime friend of the Clintons — agrees with President Donald Trump that James Comey should have been fired as FBI director, Axios reports.
"Davis told me Comey should've been fired by Barack Obama because Comey acted improperly in sending a letter about the FBI's investigation into Clinton's emails 11 days from the 2016 election (which he argues influenced the outcome), and therefore violated Justice Department policy," Axios reporter Alexi McCammond writes.
David also said "Comey's offense was his overwhelming narcissism," according to McCammond.
Davis is out this week with a new book, "The Unmaking of the President 2016: How FBI Director James Comey Cost Hillary Clinton the Presidency," published by Scribner.
Trump fired Comey after the former FBI chief launched a probe into Russia's meddling in the presidential election in July 2016 and whether the Trump campaign had a part in it.
