Talk radio host Laura Ingraham is giving GOP members of Congress a tough-love reminder that as a majority, they don't have to give in to President Barack Obama, whom she says has kept his moxie in check, even after Democrats' midterm losses, Mediaite reported.

“You have to hand it to Obama. I don’t agree with anything he’s doing. But in defeat, he acts like he won," Ingraham said Monday during an appearance on Fox News.

"I think the concern for many of us looking at the Republican Party is in victory, they act like they lose. ‘Oh, my gosh, we have to move toward Obama!’ Obama is gone, okay? If I were a Republican congressman, I would act on behalf of the American people,” Ingraham admonished as the House faced a vote challenging the re-election of longtime House Speaker John Boehner, and as Obama works to build his legacy with Republicans in control.

Ingraham was blunt, urging lawmakers to step up quickly to help Americans who have been hurt over the past few years by a stagnant economy.

"If the president decides to campaign for the next two years… let him do that," she said. "What Republicans need to be reminded of is the American people are desperate for economic growth and wage increases across the board for the middle class."

She added of making concessions: "Don't worry about where Obama goes. Do something for the people. If they work toward that and respond to the will of the people… they are gong to do very well."

It was a drumbeat warning Ingraham continued Monday after making a similar argument on air Sunday, The Washington Times noted, as Ingraham urged Republicans not to be swayed by the president's rising poll numbers after years of disappointment.

“In defeat, Obama looks like he’s setting the agenda,” she told Fox News. “I mean, his poll numbers are up. He’s got a bounce in his step. He is rising in the polls as he comes off this near-historic defeat across the board. The Republicans shouldn’t fall into the media trap of ‘We have to work with Obama!' "

As the new Congress takes over, the challenge will be whether they can effectively govern, CNN said, noting big-ticket issues on the table including the Keystone XL pipeline, immigration, healthcare and national security. Some GOP leaders are seeking compromise bills, noting that action on such legislation is likely to "set the table" for the 2016 elections.
