Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah will give the tea party response to President Barack Obama's State of the Union address next Tuesday, in addition to the traditional response from the opposing party.
"Sen. Mike Lee has been both a tea party hero for supporters across the nation, and a conservative leader in the upper chamber," said tea party chairwoman Amy Kremer in a statement Tuesday,
The Washington Post is reporting. "He has introduced tangible policy solutions to some of America's biggest problems."
The tea party group started offering a response to the State of the Union in 2011. It has commissioned Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, and former presidential candidate Herman Cain to offer a response to the president's annual address in previous years.
"For the tea party movement, 2014 is not just about taking back the Senate, but it is also about putting forward conservative ideas that will allow for America to prosper," Kremer said.
The Utah Republican's response will be streamed live on the Tea Party Express website following the State of the Union on Jan. 28.
