Chafee: Hillary's Vote for Iraq War Makes Her Unqualified

By    |   Sunday, 19 April 2015 04:57 PM EDT

Hillary Clinton is unqualified for the White House because of a "lapse of judgment" when she voted in favor of the resolution authorizing the Iraq War, says former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee.

Chafee and Clinton both were U.S. senators in 2002 when the vote was made, and Chafee, who then was a Republican, was one of the few to vote against it.

"Sen. Clinton voted in favor of it. It’s a big reason we’re seeing all this instability," Chaffee said Sunday on "The Cats Roundtable" on AM 970 in New York. "You have to back up to a lapse of judgment in 2002."

Story continues below audio.

"Everything's falling apart all across many regions of the world," Chafee told host John Catsimatidis. "There’s a lot of repair work to be done out there. And I would argue the best person to do that repair work is certainly not someone that made the mistake of voting in favor of invading Iraq. It’s going to be that much more difficult to do the repair work if you have that on your resume."

Chafee has not formally announced his intention to run for the Democratic nomination against Clinton, but did announce the formation of an exploratory committee just days before Clinton's official announcement of her candidacy one week ago.
