There is only one person in the United States who can clear President Donald Trump of accusations of Russian collusion during his presidential race, and that's special counsel Robert Mueller, Sen. Lindsey Graham said Thursday.
"As long as I'm around, I'll remind him of how this game plays," the South Carolina Republican told "CBS This Morning" co-host John Dickerson.
"I've been involved in the impeachment of [President Bill] Clinton. I understand the process pretty well. Here is what I'll tell the president: There is no scenario where you can end this investigation, the Mueller investigation, through some political intrigue, and survive. That's the end of you. The only person in America that can clear Donald Trump is [special counsel Robert] Mueller."
Graham reiterated that he does have faith in Mueller and told Dickerson if the former FBI director finds something else on Trump and it's not collusion, he'll take action. At the same time, he joked that Trump wouldn't have followed through on a collusion plan.
"I say this as a joke, but it's kind of a half of a joke," said the senator. "To collude, you gotta sit down, come up with a plan, and stick with it. Trump's not good at that."
Graham also said he believes Trump would to fire Attorney General Jeff Sessions and replace him with someone with whom he'd have a better working relationship.
"To those in my business who say, 'You're stuck with Jeff Sessions,' I like Jeff Sessions," said Graham. "But, I mean, how smart do you have to be to understand this – this is not working?"
