Sen. Kelly Loeffler, one of the two Republicans in Georgia's runoff race that could determine upcoming control of the Senate, indicated Tuesday that she'll back President Donald Trump's call for $2,000 stimulus checks in Tuesday's chamber vote.
"The president has fought for our country from day one," the Georgia Republican said on Fox News' "Fox & Friends." "I've stood by the president 100% of the time. I'm proud to do that and I've said absolutely, we need to get relief to Americans now and I will support that."
However, she said, Democrats have blocked relief funding "time and again" and "that's why we're in this situation as a country."
"We've tried to pass that relief since this summer, but [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi, [Sen.] Bernie Sanders, they've admitted that they held it up because they were playing politics with the lives of Georgians and all Americans around this election," said Loeffler. "We have to hold Democrats accountable on Jan. 5 because that's what's on the ballot. Who's going to fight for the American people? That's what [Sen.] David Perdue and I have been doing since day one and we're going to continue to do that."
Loeffler also argued that with the race coming up soon, it's important to get out and vote.
"The future of the country is on the ballot here in Georgia," she said. "We're the battleground, we're the firewall for stopping socialism ... our opponents, Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, they will be a rubber stamp for [Senate Minority Leader] Chuck Schumer's [plan for] shaping this country into something unrecognizable."
Loeffler also said Republicans have invested in a "significant operation" to make sure Georgia's vote is fair, but "we need Georgians to do their part and vote and preferably vote early."
The senator also commented on recently surfaced video of an alleged domestic incident between her Democrat opponent Warnock and his now-ex-wife and said her "heart goes out to her."
"This is a very serious issue, and these are the questions that the media here in Georgia, they're refusing to ask," said Loeffler. "We have to get to the bottom of it. This is disgusting. It's disqualifying and Georgians deserve answers."
