Rep. Luna to Newsmax: Pedophile Bills Target 'Sadistic' Culture

By    |   Friday, 17 January 2025 09:32 PM EST

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., told Newsmax on Friday that the bills she reintroduced this week calling for the death penalty for child predators are designed at protecting the innocence of children amid the “sadistic and dark” plague of pedophilia happening in the country.

Further, Luna told “Finnerty” she believes the bills will pass.

Luna reintroduced three bills earlier this week, two of which call for the death penalty or life in prison for those convicted of child trafficking and producing or even possessing child pornography.

“I'd be surprised if it doesn't,” Luna said, when asked if she thinks the bills will pass, but she expressed “concern” over the dearth of support last April.

“When I first introduced this, before President [Donald] Trump had really mentioned it on the campaign trail, I was really shocked at the level of my colleagues that actually did not want to support this, and they hid behind the death penalty and really forcing the Supreme Court to argue this,” Luna told host Rob Finnerty. “And what I would say to those people is, if we have a truly free and fair society and we use children and innocence as a marker on whether or not our justice system is functioning, please understand that if you have someone that takes away a child's innocence, that they are essentially murdering that person's soul. Those people never recover.”

Trump in July 2023 said he would “urge Congress to ensure that anyone caught trafficking children across our border receives the death penalty immediately.”

“And so I would hope that my colleagues can really, truly reflect deeply on what their convictions are, that they will support this,” Luna added. “And I think after talking to President Trump, I think that he wouldn't have an issue signing something like this into law, especially because he made similar statements on the campaign trail.”

Luna also addressed news articles on the left referring to pedophilia as a disorder instead of a crime and even a book that referred to pedophiles as “minor-attracted persons.”

“You know, it's, I think, a more sadistic and dark thing that we really are facing as a country because, you know, the United States is one of the top countries in the world for child sex trafficking and then also child pornography,” Luna said. “But I want to point out that after I introduced this bill, many leftists were saying that I was somehow going to be going after LGBT members. And frankly, it's not true. The only thing that you would have to worry about is if you are a pedophile, yes, this applies to you.”
