Americans want to know why there wasn't a bill for a clean Obamacare repeal on President Donald Trump's desk when he came in on Jan. 20, let alone why there was not one there on July 20, House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows said Monday.
"They are frustrated," the North Carolina Republican told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program. "I'm frustrated. The president is frustrated, and they have every right to be."
Last week, the Freedom Caucus pushed for a discharge petition to force a vote for a clean repeal, and to put the same bill on Trump's desk that was put on former President Barack Obama's desk in 2015.
"It's time for action," said Meadows.
Meadows also on Monday commented that just over 18 months ago, Republican senators, except for one, also voted for the straight repeal bill to send to Obama.
"Now we are saying that's not good enough for this president?" said Meadows. "As we know, the negotiations are still going on over this in the Senate. We hopefully will get a repeal and a replacement done.
"But I fully expect in the next 48 hours they'll do what they call a motion to proceed [and] have enough votes to say that at least they need to take it up, debate it in the Senate, and hopefully get this finally resolved before we go home in August."
Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is "backing up the Brinks truck, and there are a lot of members [who are] going to get a lot of money and if they will turn no to yes," show host Steve Doocy said, but Meadows said that means the constituents, not the senators are getting the money.
"They are trying to make sure that everything, that there is enough money to make sure that those pre-existing conditions are taken care of," said Meadows. "The negotiations have been going on around the clock over the weekend. So I fully expect that we will see some real results this week."
He also said that nobody is working harder than Trump to try to get the legislation through.
"He is making phone calls in the middle of the night, early in the morning, and saying we have to be all hands on deck," said Meadows. "We have got to actually deliver here."
