Conservative lawmakers are demanding the release of a House Intelligence Committee classified memo that details how the controversial Trump-Russia dossier was purportedly used by the FBI to get wiretaps against Americans, Axios is reporting.
The memo was apparently drafted by Republican committee members, according to the website. It was highlighted by Sean Hannity on Fox News on Thursday night.
Hannity said the four-page memo allegedly reveals abuses of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act within the Department of Justice and FBI. He said those who have seen the memo have described it as "shocking" and "alarming."
"Our sources are telling us that the abuse of power is far bigger than Watergate," Hannity said,
The Hannity segment prompted Reps. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., Steve King, R-Iowa, and others to push for the release of the memo. The two used social media to help get the word out.
Now, their use of the hashtag, #releasethememo, has gone viral.
And the Washington Examiner reported Twitter accounts linked the Russian influence efforts were providing a big boost to the hashtag.
More than 500 Twitter accounts linked to Russia have shown a considerable spike in the last 48 hours, the Examiner said.
