Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., said the Senate Intelligence Committee has obtained significant new information in its investigation into whether President Donald Trump's campaign colluded with the 2016 Russian election hacking, Politico is reporting.
Warner, who is vice chairman of the intelligence committee, made his comments during an interview on The Global Politico podcast.
"We've had new information that raises more questions," Warner said.
He disclosed the information was obtained through "end-of-the-year document dumps" and has "opened a lot of new questions."
"I believe I have seen, particularly in the documents area, extraordinarily important new documents that I had not seen six months ago," Warner said.
But he cautioned that his panel has yet to confirm the "veracity or truthfulness" of the information in the new documents. The intelligence committee is expected to call up to a dozen more witness as it looks into the new information.
Newsweek magazine noted Warner, a second-term senator and former technology entrepreneur, did not elaborate on what the committee learned or what the new documents contain.
During the interview with Politico, Warner also said special counsel Robert Mueller is "getting closer and closer to the truth."
And he added: "Closer and closer to the truth is getting closer and closer to the president."
