Chris Matthews: Obama Not as Good as Reagan at Uniting Parties

President Barack Obama isn't as good as President Ronald Reagan was at uniting the parties, says Chris Matthews, the host of MSNBC's"Hardball" and author of the book "Tip and the Gipper."

Matthews, who worked for Democratic House Speaker Tip O'Neill during the Republican Reagan's presidency, said Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press" that the two leaders found ways to make deals despite the highly partisan divide of their day.

Matthews described an informal dinner on Capitol Hill in which Reagan and Vice President George Bush showed up.

"I noticed something that told me Reagan was going to win all those fights: Every Democrat in the room went up to get his picture taken with Reagan."

Host David Gregory noted that most Democrats don't even want their pictures taken with Obama "because it would hurt them more than help them."
