Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., acknowledges she is putting her congressional "career on the line" because of her outspoken opposition to President Donald Trump, the Washington Examiner is reporting.
But she says she is "thrilled" by the younger voters who are backing her "resistance" to the president. Her comments came at a gathering organized by Emily's List, a pro-choice group run by women, according to the Examiner.
Despite the support in her district, she admitted "there are many who do not like what I'm doing," she said.
"But I've decided that no matter those who do dislike what I'm doing, no matter those who disagree with me, I feel absolutely certain that this country deserves better than Donald Trump," she said.
Waters is a frequent critic of the president, noted she has seen her Twitter followers surge from 46,000 to over 328,000.
Fox News said she has repeatedly accused Trump of working in collusion with the Russian government during the campaign.
"If we determine the fact that there has been collusion, then I really do think this president can be impeached," Waters had said.
