Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., slammed her critics, as well as people who have sent her death threats.
“I know that there are those who are talking about censuring me, talking about kicking me out of Congress, talking about shooting me, talking about hanging me. All I have to say is this, if you shoot me, you better shoot straight, there’s nothing like a wounded animal,” Waters said at an immigration rally Saturday, The Hill reported.
The congresswoman has been frequently critical of President Donald Trump, which has led to harassment after she called for protesters to confront Trump administration officials, the report said.
Waters canceled a pair of Alabama and Texas events this week after a “very serious death threat.”
The congresswoman’s speech Saturday was part of the “Families Belong Together” rallies being held around the U.S. in opposition to Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy toward undocumented immigrants, CNN reported.
“Donald Trump, you think you can get away with everything, but you have gone too far when you are trying to break up families in the way that you do,” Waters said at the Saturday rally, CNN reported.
