Rep. Kevin Brady's call for a probe into the sources used by the New York Times for its expose of President Donald Trump's taxes and finances is "important," but the Texas Republican wasn't "pressed for that," White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said Tuesday.

"We’ve seen the politicization of taxes before," McEnany said on Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "We’ve seen the IRS targeting tea party groups and it’s an unacceptable proposition for that to happen and unacceptable for the documents to the president to leak illegally to the New York Times who then publishes the information.”

Brady on Monday accused the newspaper's sources of committing a felony by releasing the president's tax information and demanded an investigation to "ensure every American is protected against the illegal release of their tax returns for political reasons."

McEnany also on Tuesday said Trump is well prepared for Tuesday night's debate against challenger Joe Biden because he takes "many forms of questions" from the White House Press Corps and other members of the media.

She added that there will be a "lot of contrast" between Trump and Biden at the debate, including on healthcare and the economy.

"With every issue, there is a clear definitive choice the American people have to make," she said. "They'll recognize the president's accomplishments this evening."

The president also wants to have a "substantive back-and-forth' with Biden, said McEnany.

"I'm sure the former vice president doesn't want to be talking about his record with the VA, which was in shambles but the president reversed it, giving good healthcare to our veterans," said McEnany. "I'm sure he doesn't want to talk about the dwindling down of the military."

She also defended the campaign's claims about Biden's mental faculties.

"American voters deserve to know whether they have a president who is equipped to lead, who has the ability to go long days," said McEnany.
