It was "ridiculous" for presumptive Democrat nominee Joe Biden to suggest that the military would escort President Donald Trump from the White House if he refuses to leave if he loses his reelection bid this November, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said Thursday.
“That’s a ridiculous proposition,” she told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "Leave it to Democrats to go out there and grandstand and level these conspiracy theories.”
Wednesday night, Biden told Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah that he does not doubt that the military would step in, basing his argument on the numerous military figures who have spoken out against Trump after protesters were removed from Lafayette Square to clear the path for Trump and other administration officials to walk from the White House to nearby St. John’s Episcopal Church for a photograph.
“I promise you, I am absolutely convinced they will escort him from the White House with great dispatch,” Biden said.
Biden also said during the interview that his "single greatest concern" is that Trump is going to "try to steal this election."
"This is the guy who said that all mail-in ballots are fraudulent, while he sits behind the desk in the Oval Office and writes his mail-in ballot to vote in the primary," said Biden.
McEnany also slammed a new Gallup Poll showing Trump's approval rating dropped 10 points to 39% amid nationwide protests after the police-linked death of George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis.
"That is by no means an accurate portrayal of where the president is," said McEnany. "It's a poll of adults, It's not registered voters or likely voters, which is the gold standard. It only polls 25% of Republicans, which is a very low number of Republicans to poll. It was also taken before the absolute amazing economic numbers that came out...even Gallup said the president is doing better among Republicans this time than President (Barack) Obama was doing at this (point in) time with Democrats."
