Former Deputy National Security Adviser K.T. McFarland, who served under Michael Flynn, said Wednesday they were both "ambushed" by the FBI, but the real target all along was incoming President Donald Trump.
"They lulled (Flynn) into thinking, you are not a subject and not someone under investigation and the whole time they were targeting him and targeting me and they were really targeting President Trump," McFarland said on Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "The FBI tried to trick us into committing crimes that we had no intention of committing, trying to charge us with perjury crimes."
She added that she believes Flynn was framed, and the FBI used his son "as blackmail against him to get him to plead guilty for a crime that he didn't' commit."
McFarland said that FBI agents arrived unannounced to Flynn at the White House and in her case, to her own home.
The Obama administration wanted to bring the incoming administration to its knees before it got started, "so they set Flynn up, they set me up and they set other people up but the real goal for them was to go after President Trump," she said. "We were collateral damage. They didn't care whose lives they ruined."
She noted that one document that has been released showed that then-President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, National Security Adviser Susan Rice, and other senior officials of the FBI and intelligence community discussed Flynn in a meeting on Jan. 5 and whether Flynn and the incoming administration should be informed about relations with Russia, and the one topic Rice never discussed with her or Flynn was Russia.
Meanwhile, the "lie" about Russia collusion was perpetuated for three years and it "tore the country apart," said McFarland. "Why did they do it...I don't know but I would sure like to find out. I can tell you that President Trump has reassured me several times that this will not go away."
