Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., thinks President Donald Trump should add Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz to his impeachment defense team.

“I have advocated that there needs to be one other attorney that's added to the mix for the president. And that is Alan Dershowitz,” Meadows said Wednesday during an appearance on the House Freedom Caucus podcast.

Dershowitz on Tuesday said the articles of impeachment unveiled by House Democrats fail to meet constitutional standards.

“Neither of these proposed articles satisfy the express constitutional criteria for an impeachment, which are limited to “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.” Neither are high or low crimes or misdemeanors. Neither are mentioned within the Constitution,” Dershowitz wrote in an opinion piece for the Hill.

Meadows in the podcast also said Trump wanted a combination of lawyers from his team and House Republicans to manage his impeachment defense in the Senate.

“The president believes that it needs to be a combination of lawyers from his team. So perhaps a Jay Sekulow, a Pat Cipollone, some of their team. They've got some very capable lawyers in the general counsel's office,” Meadows said.
