The daughter of veteran GOP Sen. John McCain criticized Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Thursday, saying she's doing a less-than-satisfactory job as White House press secretary.
"I will say that Sarah Huckabee Sanders — I really always liked her because she did a really good job for her father's campaign, she actually did his ground game in Iowa when he ended up ultimately winning in 2008. We thought she was really smart," Meghan McCain, co-host of "The View," said on the ABC-TV show.
"I do think there are a lot of tenets she's not living by, never complain, never explain, control the narrative. And all of these things she's not doing."
McCain's remarks came as she and her co-hosts discussed President Donald Trump's reported displeasure over Sanders for the way she responded to a lawsuit porn star Stormy Daniels filed against the commander in chief.
Daniels, who says she was given hush money to keep a 2006 affair with Trump quiet, claims a nondisclosure pact she signed is not valid because Trump never signed it. Responding to the lawsuit, Sanders said "the president has denied the allegations against him. And again, this case has already been won in arbitration," a statement that appeared to imply Trump has a legal agreement with Daniels.
A source told CNN that Trump believes the comments by Sanders, who is the daughter of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, "were essentially putting the Stormy Daniels storyline on steroids." The source said: "POTUS is very unhappy."
"I think there's someone that can control the narrative better than they're doing now," McCain said on "The View."
McCain's co-host Joy Behar also was displeased with Sanders.
"Can I just say one thing about her? That girl is an amateur liar. Her boss is a professional. You know, she's not good enough of a liar," Behar said.
