Mercedes Schlapp, a campaign adviser to President Trump's re-election campaign Tuesday defended an ad questioning Democrat Joe Biden's mental acuity.

Appearing on Fox News' "America's Newsroom," Schlapp defended the ad, which shows clips of Biden from 2015 and 2016 speaking coherently juxtaposed against clips of him during the current campaign where he struggles to find his thoughts.

"What Happened to Joe Biden?" the ad asks.

Questioned about the ad by Fox host Sandra Smith, Schlapp said, "It is an important question to make, and it's an uncomfortable conversation we need to have right now.

"The reality is that Americans deserve to know and understand and have assessed Joe Biden's capability," she continued. "There is no question that when you look at these videos from years ago til now that he has been diminished . . . You see how he has diminished. It is an important conversation to have now and the American people deserve to assess his capability."

Trump himself has questioned Biden's mental alertness, making fun of him for saying he was in the wrong city or mixing his wife with his sister at a campaign event.

The Biden campaign shot back at the ad by criticizing Trump's response to the coronavirus crisis and by mocking him for bragging he had aced a cognitive test meant to test people for dementia, Mediaite reported.
