John Bolton's scathing review of President Donald Trump as "unfit for office," echoing a leading Democratic Party talking point, is a function of President Donald Trump's rejection of his hawkish policies, according Trump campaign senior adviser Mercedes Schlapp.
"At the end of the day, John Bolton is disgruntled, because of the fact that President Trump did not follow his direction," Schlapp, who worked with former national security adviser while in the White House, told "Fox News Sunday." "John Bolton lacks credibility, just as President George Bush said."
Host Chris Wallace, who frequently shut down Schlapp's answers during a contentious interview, quipped back that Bolton echoed the complaints of other former Trump administration officials Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, White House chief of staff John Kelly, and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis.
"Look, these are individuals who did not agree with the president's policies when it came to foreign policy in general," she responded. "It's not Rex Tillerson, or John Kelly, or Secretary Mattis who make these decisions, it's President Trump, and President Trump is going to listen to his advisers at the end of the day, but he's the ultimate decision-maker when it comes to foreign policy.
"And guess what? Because of President Trump we have ended these endless wars."
Wallace on a number of occasions in the interview, stopped Schlapp's responses to his questions, claiming she was not answering them and was delivered a campaign speech.
Schlapp is a senior adviser to the Trump campaign and was brought on Wallace's show because of that role.
