The brother of former national security adviser Michael Flynn said Tuesday that Flynn should be pardoned by President Donald Trump.
Newsweek confirmed that Joseph Flynn wrote the quickly deleted tweet in response to Trump's own tweet criticizing the investigation into his campaign's connections with Russia.
Joseph Flynn replied "about time you pardoned General Flynn who has taken the biggest fall for all of you given the illegitimacy of his confessed crime in the wake of all this corruption."
He later described his tweet to Newsweek as his "personal opinion," and said that he stood by it despite deleting it, and soon sent another, similar tweet to Trump.
The White House has refused to comment on whether Trump plans to pardon Flynn, who pleaded guilty to lying to federal agents earlier this month.
