Former RNC Chair to GOP: You Will 'Reap What You Sow'

MSNBC

Former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele said Wednesday that the GOP will "reap what you sow," after President Donald Trump's remarks about the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia.

"He saw the moment and he ducked, and he continues to duck," Steele said on MSNBC. "We have, in our face, a situation where there's someone who has elevated the hate machines in this country to the level of the presidency."

"And has created, I think, a false equivalency but an equivalency nonetheless."

"Think about how we got to where we are and the journey that it took to get here, the men and women who fought along that trail, who were the freedom riders, who were the ones pushing back against the very same people that the president can't even say, 'I don't like them' without seeming forced. Without seeming that 'this is what the script says so I'll read this, but this isn't what I feel.'"

"Yesterday was a big middle finger to the country in so many ways by the president," said Steele. "He said, finally, 'I'm going to do this my way and tell you what I really believe.' We now see the man for who he is."

Steele also replied "no" when asked if white supremacist and former KKK leader David Duke supported him as head of the RNC. Duke recently voiced his support for Trump's statement on Charlottesville.
