The former Breitbart reporter
whose allegation that she was manhandled by Donald Trump's campaign manager – a
battery charge that's now been dropped – says the Trump camp has "defamed" her with "blatant lies."
In an interview Sunday on CNN's
"Reliable Sources," Michelle Fields, in her first TV sit-down about the clash with Corey Lewandowski, accused the Trump campaign of launching a "huge smear campaign against me."
"If I just received an apology as I was told I was going to receive, this would have not been such a huge story," she said. "The reason is because Corey lied and they defamed me… and I think it sheds light on the character of the campaign and I think a lot of people were surprised by their blatant lies about me."
Meanwhile, Lewandowski sidestepped a question about whether he'd be willing to apologize for the confrontation,
The Hill reports.
"To apologize to someone I've never spoken to ... is a little unrealistic right now," he said in an an interview on
"Fox News Sunday,"
And in a refute of Fields's claim that she never was called, left a message, texted or emailedl by Lewandowski, the Trump aide said he never heard back from her after his attempt to reach her.
In her interview, Fields says she hasn't ruled out filing a defamation lawsuit, and blasted the prosecutor's handling of the case, calling it very unprofessional."
"You look at the prosecutors and his wife’s social media," she said. "They are at Donald Trump’s resort all of the time. You look at the prosecutors wife owns a PR firm. You look at the PR firm’s website and she talks about why you should work with her PR firm because she has lots of great working relationships and the first picture is her and Donald Trump and her and Trump’s wife.
"I can’t speak for anyone else but if I were a prosecutor and my wife was trying to monetize her relationship with Donald Trump and it’s right on her website, I would recuse myself in that situation."
